Reporting to the Manager of Special Projects, the Project Manager will lead multi-disciplinary construction projects, including the construction of multiple lift stations, structural concrete and steel, foundations, deep structure installations, plumbing and electrical, building and wall footings, and carpentry. This role will be accountable for all aspects of the project, including scheduling, budget control, procurement, safety management, and subcontractor coordination. The Project Manager ensures that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards, while maintaining strong relationships with clients, engineers, and subcontractors. The Project Manager will also provide guidance and leadership to the field teams to drive the project forward, ensuring effective decision-making, risk management, and adherence to contractual requirements.

How You’ll Add Value

  • Develop, implement, and manage the project’s strategy, schedule, and budget, ensuring clear and consistent communication with clients, engineers, and subcontractors
  • Lead and manage the construction of multiple lift stations and other construction projects, ensuring all phases are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards
  • Provide overall leadership for the project, ensuring all aspects, from scope to execution, are on track and aligned with client expectations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, negotiate contract terms, and collaborate with engineers to ensure alignment between project goals and client needs
  • Oversee subcontractor coordination, procurement of materials, and ensure all are aligned with project timelines
  • Negotiate and manage changes to project scope, budget, and schedule, securing necessary approvals while maintaining client relationships.
  • Provide leadership to the Project Coordinator, Foreman, and field teams, ensuring effective communication and safe project execution
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, assess risks, and ensure project specifications are being met
  • Proactively identify and resolve project issues, adjusting schedules and budgets as needed to mitigate risks
  • Actively contribute to Volker Stevin Contracting’s safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment

The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following:

Qualifications & Experience

  • CET, Construction Project Management Degree, or P.Eng. designation, or a trade ticket (carpentry preferred); a combination of relevant education and construction experience will be considered
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in project management, particularly in heavy civil, process piping, mechanical systems, or lift station construction
  • Strong commercial and building experience or oilfield experience considered an asset
  • Experience in managing negotiated jobs and working directly with clients to ensure alignment and satisfaction
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor small teams, including Project Coordinators, Foremen, and field crews
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with software such as InEight, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and Bluebeam is an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including overtime, and travel to various project sites as required
