Reporting to the Manager, Roads, the Roads Estimator/Project Manager will provide overall support for paving and surface construction projects within the City of Calgary and surrounding area. The primary responsibility of this position will be the preparation of cost estimates in an accurate and timely manner. Extended responsibilities will include project management, establishing preliminary construction schedules, procurement of materials, coordinating subcontractors, reconciling quantities, preparing progress billings, and contract review.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Oversee paving and surface construction projects with a heavy focus on estimating
  • Coordinate with internal teams, field crews, and clients throughout all phases of project construction to ensure seamless project execution and delivery
  • Conduct onsite inspections during project execution to monitor progress, quality, and compliance with project requirements
  • Maintain accurate project records to ensure efficient delivery, reconciled billings, and final invoicing
  • Participate in securing new work by preparing estimates and proposals as part of the core team
  • Prepare estimating takeoffs, bid estimates, and attend pre-tender meetings to review specifications and drawings
  • Measure and confirm field measurements for final billing reconciliation and project accuracy
  • Partner with supervisors to align skill development with position requirements and future opportunities
  • Build strong relationships with the civil construction community, including consultants, associations, and clients
  • Provide exceptional customer service by addressing client inquiries with a problem-solving approach
  • Support and guide field teams to ensure safe operations, steady project progression, and optimized service delivery

What You Bring

  • 4+ years of estimating experience, or a combination of field and estimating experience
  • CET, BScPM, P. Eng. preferred; a combination of relevant education and heavy civil construction experience will be considered
  • Experience with construction software such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, Viewpoint, and InEight
  • Strong skills in reading and interpreting plans and specifications, and highly analytical with mathematical aptitude
  • Proven ability to build and maintain trusting, credible relationships, handling interactions constructively, addressing challenges proactively, and ensuring service and delivery standards are optimized
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including overtime, and travel throughout the Calgary area as required
